Nieuw licht (PDF score)

It took a long time to find a title for this piece. Nieuw licht, or new light, in C minor, is about reminiscing about past events, as you sit and stare into the fire place. It is about those moments when in a dreamy state of mind new insights suddenly hit you. Actually, the first idea for this piece was quite different. It started from a simple theme in an early composition. Interesting side fact: after I pegged this theme to the stadsbeiaardier, i.e., the carillon player of the Nieuwe Kerk (new church) in Delft, he programmed it as one of the short tunes played every hour by the carillon of this famous historic church on the beautiful market square. This was in 2009.
